Eight
killed as more floods hit Vietnam
At least eight people have died and three are
missing in floods in central Vietnam that have
forced authorities to evacuate thousands of
people, officials said Thursday.
Heavy rains have flooded rural areas and parts
of the cities of Hue, Danang and the world heritage-listed
port of Hoi An, turning streets into rivers
and forcing residents to travel by canoe and
makeshift barge.
The
latest floods have come as Vietnam is still
coping with the aftermath of Typhoon Lekima
and massive floods earlier this month, which
killed at least 88 people and left nine missing,
feared dead.
In
Quang Ngai province, three people, including
a two-year-old boy, drowned while floods left
many villages isolated from the outside world,
said an online report of the Hanoi-based national
flood and storm control committee.
